HOPE WALL with Hope school, Liverpool. (Update 2)

hope school logoOur project to revamp the RE room at Hope School Liverpool has advanced in it’s developments.

Pupils have been working to create the main concept of the artwork and came up with 4 main words..3 of these words will be made into traditional letter graffiti pieces..with the final one being a first for us, creating either a layered perspex piece or a 3D light box piece …Today we made a couple of simple mock ups…to try out the idea.

Here are examples of light box signs in the street in Liverpool. Now we have the opportunity to make our own…just fresher!

HOPE WALL: Hope School Liverpool:Project in progress!

hope school logo

ZAP GRAFFITI ARTS are currently working with pupils and staff at HOPE SCHOOL in Liverpool, alongside artist educator SOPHIE BOWER to assist the young people with the redecoration of their RE room.

project-aims hope

When the artist, Sophie, consulted with the pupils over what they would have in the RE room if they could choose, a lot of the answers involved interactive things such as PS3, x-box, go karts. Pupils were also keen to produce something they felt was of a high quality. They said that they got bored if they had to do things they had done already.

We decided that an RE mural by itself wouldn’t meet these needs of the pupils so we chose to create a more interactive wall that could be changed regularly. We hope that it can be moved around the school too, so that it can be used for other subject areas!

More info on the project and each step will be documented here and also on the main blog below.

STREET GAMES: SEFTON LAUNCH

We’ve just returned from an evening in Netherley, Sefton where Zap Graffiti Arts did a series of workshops with local young people from the Bark and Daley Estate as part of the launch of STREET GAMES in the area with Sefton Leisure.

Street Games is a new national initiative to engage young people in sport within neighbourhoods that normally miss out on quality sporting opportunities. Street Games is established as a registered charity and announced a national expansion programme in January 2007. Street Games works with a range of partners to create exciting opportunities for young people and connects through to local community opportunities to enable young people to continue being active.

Street Games believes that sport can contribute to healthy living, can support personal development, build self confidence, develop leadership skills and install a sense of community pride.
